To see in the year tiger we wanted to do something really great, after we have a significant group of New Hong Kong students together in September.

We were very pleased to receive the children in about 30 Cantonese families in our school, because we know that our school is strengthened in the diversity of the student body and its staff.

I believe that students from a wide range of cultures make our school richer, and convey to our youth the importance of listening to others and demonstrating respect in different opinions.

However, I was aware that these new encounters to be nervous. It’s hard enough to convey school in childhood, but starting a completely new life to another country at the same time is something completely different!

The first step I took was to set up a working group with new students to discuss what we could do to celebrate the new Chinese year when it comes.

As the most important special event in the calendars, it seemed only to be trying to mark it and the essence of events it deserves.

This performance was initial efforts to fall well with parents, who had their own concern to justify how their children would take new schools and surrounding areas. I always felt that actions speak louder than words.

Although I have already pressed these parents how much Lydon publishes all the ethos -inclusive and champions of different cultures, I know that unfortunately people can sometimes spend more time in conversations about things than their exercise in practice.

We end up with a newspaper full of events in the first week of February overlap with the main Chinese New Year celebrations.

Virtual Field Trip: Chinese Lunar New Year

I wanted to make sure that there was an important visual demonstration that fits one of the world’s largest holidays, so we continue to decorate the school with important posters in memory of the tiger year.

Then we held meetings that focus on the Chinese New Year, so that all school students can understand their history and cultural meanings, followed by additional discussions that occurred during the teacher period.

I would like to incorporate a language element, so we made an effort to teach students a bit of a basic Cantonese, including how to say ‘Happy New Year’ for these new ones.

We all know that nothing bridge different cultures like food, so for this purpose, Cantonese students have worked closely with our canteen team to develop a menu based on the special dishes that have traditionally been served during the new celebrations Chinese.

A selection of these foods was offered throughout the week, and students set up for the job to learn how to prepare for food technology lessons.

I hope our efforts to plan a series of Chinese New Year’s activities and then have our many new experiences that really have a place here in Lindon.

I would like to feel that we have embraced them with their culture, because I know that what they shared with us has already made our school richer.
