Tourist Spots In Jakarta Indonesia – There is a big difference between living and traveling in Jakarta.  When traveling to a new city, I strive to find out.  I checked the tourist attractions, eating street food and wandering on the target to see what I could find.  But I haven’t really done it -this thing in Jakarta.  As I said while living in Jakarta

Here, living is possible to see me to see the difficult city side that most visitors cannot see.  And I’m grateful for that.  But now that I end up here soon, I have the feeling that I have lost that I have lost certain things offered by Jakarta.

In addition, I’m a permanent traveler.  And now I have less than two weeks before I left Jakarta, I came to the conclusion that I had to see this city as a real tourist before I left.  So last weekend, Aaron and I finally combined our actions and looked for some of the best tourist attractions in Jakart.  And believe it or not, we have fun playing tours!

10 Best Things To Do In Jakarta, Indonesia

Aaron and I first decided to mark all the best tourist attractions in Jakarta, so we started in the center of Jakarta.  It’s like Washington, D.T., from Indonesia.  This is the country’s political center and has the four best tourist attractions in Jakart.  The best thing is that they are all from each other.  Even if you are afraid that you have to cross the roads full of city traffic and you should if you might want to take Tuk-Tuk.

Aaron and I started our day with tourist attraction number in Jakarta, Monas.  Mona is another name of the national monument.  The iconic structure is located in the center of Central Jakarta on Merdeka Square.  The 137 -meter -high monument was completed in 1975 and served as an important symbol of Jakarta’s independence from the Netherlands in 1945.

We have a big plan to go to the top of the monument to test the look, but after we saw how long we wait to not do it.  Perhaps visiting Sundays is not the best idea because the line is very long.

In addition, we can admire from the ground and wander around the Merdeka Square.  A very large field is actually one of the few public spaces in the city (sad reality in Jakarta).  So happy to finally visit a place where people can really gather out.  In this case, I am pleased that we visited the weekend because it was a pleasant place where some people watch.  Although the lack of shadows makes it very hot!

After I took about 100 monuments, we decided to go out to the Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral, both of which were just five minutes away.  Aaron and I like to walk everywhere, but Jakarta is probably one of the cities at least for pedestrians I’ve ever visited.  Therefore, we rarely walk anywhere.  But because we are in traveler mode, we are determined to walk between Central Jakarta’s tourist attractions.

We really do not appreciate how difficult it is to cross the way in Jakarta.  To reach the mosque from Mona, we have to pass the five -line path, which is quite hairy, which is a small sketch.  As Aaron said, it was just like playing a real life frog.

Istiqlal Mosque is actually the largest mosque in Southeast Asia.  Open in 1978 and is another symbol of the country’s independence (the word Istiqlal actually means independence).  Jakarta Cathedral is right across the road.  I am a big fan of Islamic architecture, but this Catholic Church is very cool, and officially one of my favorite structures is the city.  I think just look!

In addition, the agenda is a pass of a bar, one of the oldest markets in Jakarta.  Honestly, I don’t know much about what is expected, but I’m a little in love with the new market.  This can be one of the most diverse areas in Jakarta.  The Chinese, Java and Indian people have a rich history in this city, and many of them still live in business.

The place where Indonesians will go shopping before the shopping center takes over the city.  In addition to having nearly 200 centers in Jakarta, Passar is still popular with Indonesians everyday to shop in clothes, textiles, food and more.

Given my obsession with Indian food, I’m jazz.  And regardless of Aaron and I am not too hungry, we cannot hold lunch at the first vegetarian Indian restaurant we met.  Yes, there are many clean vet Indian restaurants around the bar!  And yes, I almost died because of happiness.

After we filled with Naan garlic, chicken measles and some kind of potato curry, we decided to roam and leave.  What I really like from the new market is that it is the classic Southeast Asian market.  It is very similar to chinatown in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, unless there is a red lantern and it is not at all tourist oriented.  It is only an authentic and chaotic Indonesian market.

Clever word, don’t eat before visiting the new market.  In addition to many Indian foods, this place is also a street food center.  There are a variety of fried treats, chicken satay skewers and some strange fruits.  If I’m not so full of my Indian lunch, I may only snack on all the amazing street dishes.

After we marked four major tourist attractions in the center of Jakarta, we decided to take a taxi in the colonial city of the Old Town.  In addition to Monas, the Old Town can be the largest tourist attraction in Jakarta.  This is part of a city where former Indonesian Dutch invaders really left their feet.

Honestly, I’ve never heard of very good things about the Old Town.  Tourists mostly say it is very small and really dirty.  Although this is true to some extent, I was fascinated by the area because it offered an insight into the tragic history of Jakarta.  There are still several Dutch colonial buildings that are flawless, many of which are a pure city canal.

However, most of the Old Town buildings suffered competition losses from age or from unrest in 1998. As we go around us, we see how much of the above beautiful structures are reduced to burning shells.  And it shows how many city buildings have been destroyed during this concussion.  (To learn more about the unrest in Jakarta, 1998, read this article … Seriously, it will explain the new Jakarta history.)

In addition to history, the landscape in the Old Town is really strange and not as I wait.  Because of Sunday, there are Indonesian gangs gathering in the main square.  There was a very strange magic show that happened when Aaron and I arrived.  When I climbed to my end, trying to peek the crowd I saw was just a boy who was shaken in a sheet, such as mummy and tied with a rope.  We were not long enough to learn how the show ended.  All I know is that the big bull whip is destroyed when we leave …

At the end of the square, there are adults wearing zombie costumes, wizards and scary vampires.  It might make sense if Halloween returned to the US, but it was June in Jakarta.  I think people just like to wear scary costumes in the Old Town?  There are also Indonesians who are riding colored bikes around the square and wearing a wide cropped hat in line.  In addition to the strangeness, the Old Town is the right place to wander, people look and eat a lot of street food.

I’m very honest with my rocky relationship with Jakarta, but I’m very surprised at how nice it is to spend the day when Jakarta is a real tourist.  Casted in my apartment and spending time, especially for 11 months, made me forget that I am in a city full of history, culture and delicious street food.

I also understand that there are actually many fun things to do in Jakarta, and anyone who thinks Jakarta is worth a visit or not, I can honestly say that it is.
